THOUGHT LEADERSHIP PROJECT

RICS Guidance

As UK leaders in health and well-being consultancy for the built environment, Ekkist were commissioned by the RICS to write official guidance on the Design, Delivery and Management of Healthy Buildings for Chartered Surveyors.

This was partly to address the industry knowledge gap relating to health and well-being, with much attention having been paid in previous decades to sustainable buildings, with significantly less focus on how buildings impact people and their health.

The guidance acknowledges that the RICS and its built environment professionals (alongside architects and planners, engineers and asset managers) play a

fundamental role in delivering a healthy built environment and outlines key frameworks, steps and considerations for creating and operating healthy buildings.

It also highlights that surveyors play a key role in helping clients to develop environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies that address health and well-being, ensuring that any goals or benchmarks are upheld throughout the design and delivery process, that budgets are correctly allocated, and that the right value based

decisions are made.

This document is therefore designed to provide an overview for all surveying professionals on the key aspects and processes that need to be considered when designing and delivery healthy places, and to signpost additional frameworks and resources for implementing those initiatives.
