Working with architects Studio McLeod, Ekkist built upon an existing concept for the holiday lodges using the Ekkist Design for Well-being® Framework. We supported the client with a review of the design, including spatial planning recommendations, use of building materials and proposed operation and services to guests.

Using new sub-soil technologies to deliver naturally-built rammed earth lodges in a combination of construction technologies and methods not previously found anywhere else in the UK.

The scheme aims to achieve one of the highest SAP ratings in the UK, beyond carbon zero; exist entirely off-grid, using no infrastructure resources; and create a year-round natural environment with accommodation designed for use in all seasons, including a chemical-free swimming experience in one of the longest natural swimming ponds in the UK.

It is intended that Idyll Lodges will exemplify what is meant by living within earth’s environmental limits, demonstrating good governance, and using sound science responsibly while delivering environmental responsible stewardship.
